I'll pose this question to you all so that a list may be compiled: what are all the negative traits that can go away with time? One thing that I didnt take into account when making that list is the fact that to pick these positive traits, youre going to have to take some hits. While water will shut off during the first month of the game, it's easy to find . Overpriced but underrated IMO. It might even be less than 1 per second. Also can get you killed, and makes trailers difficult/unviable/impossible, along with towing or pushing vehicles/wrecks that are blocking the road. That being said, Ill usually take it if I can. It's a pretty genuine tradeoff, not to mention it's annoying to listen to most game sounds muffled. Because of this I'd personally put it at 2, but I won't dispute a 3 too much simply because for whatever reason other people somehow find it to be useful. It does make the early game a lot easier, though. If you're an experienced driver with a PC that can run the game well you are simply NEVER going to die to Speed Demon, and the increase in acceleration speeds up gameplay; particularly when it comes to towing. Eventually Claustrophobic will wear off in Project Zomboid as well. Farming isnt too difficult to level, either. Some people don't care though hence why in the middle at 3/5. Speaking of underweight as a negative trait.. But if you are looking for positive traits, you can find a link to a guide for the best positive traits below. -4 Fitness, Very Underweight: Very low strength, very low endurance and prone to injury. On the flip side weak is very good points for this reason. Faster speed saves time. High Thirst is great for a few extra points. YouTuber Retanaru also posted a great video breaking down some of the best traits to use that you can see here. One of the best traits frequently recommended by the Project Zomboid community is Short-Sighted. Every traits related to weight and fitness/strenght can evolve/go away. Worth considering if you know what youre doing. The mechanics are complicated but a few levels in nimble/lightfooted largely nullify clumsy, and being in stealth gives zombies a chance to ignore your footstep sounds on top of that. Growing crops is great, but the benefit from farming skill is not significant enough. If youre being stealthy you can generally avoid getting into danger but youre right. Pretty much a non-issue with certain weapons that can consistently one-shot even at low skill levels. Note: the ratings are aimed towards new players on default settings. Becomes a less of an issue with fast learner, but having high levels in weapon skills is essential for combat. Still pretty bad for new players. You could start at 0 or 3 and level up to 4 or 6. I dont like smoker cause I hate micromanaging smokes, but if you dont mind it its pretty good too. Traits are positive and negative bonuses that you can apply to your character in Project Zomboid. Athletic is non negotiable. Why the hell did i think writing this was a good idea this took like an hour fuck AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. The problem being, this is per tick, so if you're on a tile for 9 ticks and there is a 92% chance, you'll almost always likely be seen regardless, because it's not a 92% chance the whole time, it's 92% chance per tick which happens extremely fast in terms of gameplay. Yes. Pacifist, despite what it says, only makes you get 30% less experience with weapons. Useful for stealth, but you can always just stop moving to avoid making sound. I always like to see how other peoples play styles since the game is so customizable. Panic while performing first aid isnt really an issue. In short, when you get injured, just avoid combat and take it easy for a few days and let your wounds heal. These skills suck as short blunt and spear will take longer to gain levels in. Best of all you get a whole 6 points at your disposal to spend. Yes good call with the Thin-skinned. Now, SP and MP differ slightly because of no time forward. I'd rate it much higher, especially for newer players as it will help prevent deaths. This perk isnt working at all as of the time im writing this, so its free points. I don't understand why people like it. Want an overweight lumberjack? But that being said, if you want a character that is going to survive for a very long time, this doesnt really matter. You can really live without this one, 6 points is costly too. Since we are on the vein of traits that wont matter in the long-term its worth bringing underweight into the mix. This means driving through bushes, towing vehicles, and having to life-or-death plow through zombies, will fail horribly. Only downside is sometimes you have nothing to do in a day, leaving your character to get bored and depressed, but thats what sleeping pills and exercise are for. Most persist. It's only useful to save time and hence make the game slightly less boring. This can be an issue though if do get surprised by an enemy (which can happen often in Project Zomboid), but as long as you are a stealthy player you should be fine with Thin-Skinned! Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Looking through the list, I think you got them all. Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts. What are traits in Project Zomboid? Nimble increases your move speed in combat stance but is almost impossible to level without some kind of boost. And when You have 9 fitness it's not going to cause any problems, so probably even 4/5 if you have 9 fitness. I wanted to spice up my character with some positive and negative traits to make zomboid a little more interesting. Again you probably don't know how detection works in the game. Just fast forward time. Strength is difficult to level up, dont take this. Then you will already have a extra point or two into your category of choice from this. Always love learning the little quirks like this in the game. Slow Healer (doesn't really matter; also don't get hurt), High Thirst (water is trivial unless you have month-long drought), Underweight (just gorge yourself on perishable food before the power goes out), Smoker (this is a positive trait disguised as a negative one), Prone to Illness (free points; just don't sit out in the rain naked for hours), Hearty Appetite (food isn't much of a problem and you need to eat enough calories to maintain a healthy weight anyway), Conspicuous (it makes you more likely to be spotted, but zombies are doing lots of spot checks anyway so it doesn't matter much), Weak Stomach (you shouldn't be eating bad food regardless, so this is free points), Short Sighted (it's broken and only decreases your foraging radius), Cowardly (unless you're going up against giant hordes panic isn't really an issue, and Beta Blockers are plentiful), Slow Reader (it's annoying but not bad, you just spend more time fast-forwarding in your base). How did you find the list? Feeble, weak - by training strength. One tiny mistake and the character youve had for a few in-games weeks/months is gone and so are your skills. The only real issue would be sleeping but you can just choose a base with a big enough room to place a bed in. Traits are divided up into positive traits that cost points to have, and negative traits that give you points to spend. Some traits in Project Zomboid can't be picked at the same time, however, you can pick both Underweight and Fit, which seem to cancel each other out. Starting the list off with one of my favorite negative perks it is time to talk about high thirst. I play with all loot set to extremely rare except for melee weapons set to rare and guns/ammo set to normal. Handy - little carpentry boost, considering additional construction health there won't be random hordes of zombies coming to your base late into the game, so no real need for more durable constructions in SP. However, keep in mind you won't have this button in multiplayer, so we would avoid choosing it withmultiplayer characters. The XP boosts will be massively helpful too. Grinding out strength and fitness is such a chore and almost impossible at the higher levels so Ill at least take either Strong or Athletic, if not both. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Late, but the thing with Short Sighted in this particular guide from OP is just that at the moment it's seemingly free points, so they don't personally use it. Along with surviving the most obvious threat of flesh eating undead you will have to navigate your character's psyche as well as stress will impact your character's ability to deal with their situation. Also makes vehicles louder. Ideally paired with fire officer so you can pick underweight and still keep athletic. I replace hemophobic with claustrophobic, there are a few tricks that make it not a big deal. Getting into a zombie's line-of-sight is almost always a bad idea, so this perk hurts newer players a lot more than it hurts experienced players. Avoid. Just watch life and living and read books for the first week to level cooking. Create an account to follow your favorite communities and start taking part in conversations. You call it a "waste of points" yet for some reason still give it a 2. Agoraphobic is probably the worst of the two, but it is great when paired with adrenaline junkie. Id always take one of these. Possibly the most harmful traits you can take. Of course things like cats eyes will be more useful when the world is set to pitch black nights, and other perks have specific uses to peoples playstyles so you may find them occasionally more useful than I may have rated them. 2 points for 1 str, 1 axe and 1 sprinting for a minor weight debuff is nuts. When fast forwarding tasks, it gives you enough time to react and kill surprise zombies. Conspicuous: 3/5. Inconspicuous and Graceful: you probably didn't look into how these work. This list will show you my personal favorites and make you think of some traits you didnt consider before. With Project Zomboid youre generally going to be spending most of your time avoiding the action rather than tearing through zombies. I don't see very many discussions on this topic, and the wikis are barren with which traits can go away aside from those as a result of the recent Fitness update. The best traits in Project Zomboid are Short Sighted, High Thirst and Weak Stomach, they are examples of traits that cause little to no inconvenience and or are easy to fix. To play and make specific character builds in Project Zomboid, players must balance their builds with both positive and negative traits. Generally high-fat foods are going to be easy to find. Despite this it is still a very significant issue with stealth, yes. Nimble along with weapon proficiency and fitness is the key to taking on sizable groups effectively. Some really great points there, I hadn't realised any of that even after playing with some of these skills for a couple hundred hours lol. It might make sense for Smoker to eventually be possible to get rid of, but it looks like it's permanent for now (maybe it represents those people who can never truly ditch the addiction, and not just anyone who's addicted). Aside from exhaustion, sleepiness is the biggest danger as the more tired you get, the more your perception decreases. Organized increases the storage capacity of all containers so its a little more useful than youre giving it credit for but I agree that its expensive. -2 Fitness, Description: Low strength, low endurance and prone to injury. Join. If your character is lucky enough to live for a couple of months, claustrophobic will be completely gone. -1 Fitness. Basically 2 free points. Pacifist. Carry weight before encumbrance didnt increase, nor did the maximum 50 carry weight cap. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. For only 2 points, this trait is a steal. ._1LHxa-yaHJwrPK8kuyv_Y4{width:100%}._1LHxa-yaHJwrPK8kuyv_Y4:hover ._31L3r0EWsU0weoMZvEJcUA{display:none}._1LHxa-yaHJwrPK8kuyv_Y4 ._31L3r0EWsU0weoMZvEJcUA,._1LHxa-yaHJwrPK8kuyv_Y4:hover ._11Zy7Yp4S1ZArNqhUQ0jZW{display:block}._1LHxa-yaHJwrPK8kuyv_Y4 ._11Zy7Yp4S1ZArNqhUQ0jZW{display:none} I always take wakeful so I have more time for zombie stomping in a day. Due to the fact that once you are bitten you are infected anyway, I always end up grabbing thin-skinned. Water is easy to obtain. The XP boost to nimble is great, as it levels extremely slowly on its own. NEVER take this. if(typeof ez_ad_units!='undefined'){ez_ad_units.push([[336,280],'setreadygame_com-leader-1','ezslot_15',114,'0','0'])};__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-setreadygame_com-leader-1-0'); Along with this you have the option to pick up the positive trait known as Brave. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast, The subreddit for Project Zomboid. 1- More harm than good, either because it costs too many points, doesnt give enough for what it is, or because it may get you killed. However, if you go a while without smoking, you will become unhappy until you reach the point of depression. When an attack goes through it checks the player's resistances, which is a separate calculation using the player's injury chance. They need to balance the other crops so that there's reason to grow them, and maybe add a requirement to farming to grow corn or wheat (which could be converted into non-perishables). I play with darker nights so Cat Eyes is one that I always take. https://discord.gg/theindiestone, Press J to jump to the feed. If you gain enough weight, you won't be "underweight" anymore ; if you lvl up your strenght skill enough, you'll go from "weak" to "feeble", or from "feeble" to nothing (5 fitness) and so on. This is honestly a very great perk worth considering, especially for only 4 points. Stress from being bloody is annoying and can be an issue unless you have a lot of water collectors or are set up by a river. The extra speed will often cause you to crash and badly injure yourself, even with cruise control. Take fast learner instead. It cancels out their negatives. Although note that it's per-detection tick, which I think might be around one real-life second or something? I guess it is really playstyle dependent. They need to give it more features and make it much stronger. Take with outdoorsman to negate most of the negative effects and gain 2 free points. Runner: 3/5. Unless TIS changed something Poor Eyesight is permament, used to pick that one and survived for couple of months and it didn't go away but it was long time ago in a galaxy far, far away What about if you quit smoking? Luckily this is manageable as long as you have a steady supply of cigarettes. I really dislike playing with this perk, but it isnt entirely detrimental. One of them is asthmatic, which I don't think should be too much of an issue if I'm going for a stealth build. 2- Not directly harmful, but either a bit too expensive or too situational to be worth using. Cigarettes are easy to find, and i think smoking every so often adds a neat little bit of immersion. For that reason, I always take thin skinned and just pray for the best. Considering how valuable points are this is a massive waste. Not bad per se, just not worth the points. .FIYolDqalszTnjjNfThfT{max-width:256px;white-space:normal;text-align:center} ._3bX7W3J0lU78fp7cayvNxx{max-width:208px;text-align:center} You can simply plant a couple more crops to get the same effect. ._9ZuQyDXhFth1qKJF4KNm8{padding:12px 12px 40px}._2iNJX36LR2tMHx_unzEkVM,._1JmnMJclrTwTPpAip5U_Hm{font-size:16px;font-weight:500;line-height:20px;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-bodyText);margin-bottom:40px;padding-top:4px;text-align:left;margin-right:28px}._2iNJX36LR2tMHx_unzEkVM{-ms-flex-align:center;align-items:center;display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex}._2iNJX36LR2tMHx_unzEkVM ._24r4TaTKqNLBGA3VgswFrN{margin-left:6px}._306gA2lxjCHX44ssikUp3O{margin-bottom:32px}._1Omf6afKRpv3RKNCWjIyJ4{font-size:18px;font-weight:500;line-height:22px;border-bottom:2px solid var(--newCommunityTheme-line);color:var(--newCommunityTheme-bodyText);margin-bottom:8px;padding-bottom:8px}._2Ss7VGMX-UPKt9NhFRtgTz{margin-bottom:24px}._3vWu4F9B4X4Yc-Gm86-FMP{border-bottom:1px solid var(--newCommunityTheme-line);margin-bottom:8px;padding-bottom:2px}._3vWu4F9B4X4Yc-Gm86-FMP:last-of-type{border-bottom-width:0}._2qAEe8HGjtHsuKsHqNCa9u{font-size:14px;font-weight:500;line-height:18px;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-bodyText);padding-bottom:8px;padding-top:8px}.c5RWd-O3CYE-XSLdTyjtI{padding:8px 0}._3whORKuQps-WQpSceAyHuF{font-size:12px;font-weight:400;line-height:16px;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-actionIcon);margin-bottom:8px}._1Qk-ka6_CJz1fU3OUfeznu{margin-bottom:8px}._3ds8Wk2l32hr3hLddQshhG{font-weight:500}._1h0r6vtgOzgWtu-GNBO6Yb,._3ds8Wk2l32hr3hLddQshhG{font-size:12px;line-height:16px;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-actionIcon)}._1h0r6vtgOzgWtu-GNBO6Yb{font-weight:400}.horIoLCod23xkzt7MmTpC{font-size:12px;font-weight:400;line-height:16px;color:#ea0027}._33Iw1wpNZ-uhC05tWsB9xi{margin-top:24px}._2M7LQbQxH40ingJ9h9RslL{font-size:12px;font-weight:400;line-height:16px;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-actionIcon);margin-bottom:8px}
