Maybe off to Boyton then it`s only a short hop back to Minsmere. Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Some very nice work, love the take on the gulls. Gadwall and shoveler are more numerous, and both can be seen displaying alongside the more familiar mallards. Little Egret in flight as well - beautiful! Meet and greet 9 am to 5 pm. Sand martins have returned in good numbers and can usually be seen feeding over Island Mere during the day. Find out more about the nature and wildlife outside your window. Less rare but equally exciting yesterday were a family of tiny water rail chicks at Island Mere where bearded tits were busy feeding chicks. Most of our waders will disappear too, although we do often have a few pairs of lapwing which stay on to breed. Starling numbers will diminish fairly quickly this month and nearly all wigeon and teal will move to their breeding grounds (individuals of both stayed in the Avalon Marshes last spring/summer).
