Bob was known by colleagues and students as someone who was intellectually demanding, yet ready to help those who were struggling with theories, hypotheses and analysis. He liked to make the rounds to connect with colleagues for a quick conversation, mostly stand in the doorway to talk about whatever was on his mind and never in a whisper. The world lost an intelligent, caring, compassionate, non-judgmental, and very unique person when William Pipes Heck (known to many as Bill or Wild Bill) was killed in a motorcycle accident in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 4, 2008. One of the rare francophone researchers to regularly participate in ASC meetings, Jean-Paul completed his Ph.D. in Philosophy in 1975 at the Universit de Paris and was a professor of Philosophy at the Universit du Qubec Montral until 1978.
