The Yes Standard is updated for 2016 and has some changes that make it less friendly for less advanced riders but make it more friendly for the strong expert rider. Im probably in the minority by saying that Id like to see the camber extended a bit to lock in and spring out of the turn better. Well not Jimbos but he would love the mid/wide 156w. 151: 8.5-9.5 The first day I rode it with the gang for a few runs at the demos but then kept it for a little over a week. Pair this with a good shock absorbent binding and its going to be pretty good on the joints. So basically its got about as good carving ability as you can get for the amount of float you get in powder. Its not perfect but its really fun for all but the super technical go massively big riders. Set Up: Centered 15 front -15 back 23 wide. Compared to other Men's All-Mountain Boards. Super easy to one foot and flat base. Its not an ice specialist but good in the conditions most find acceptable. Edge Hold: The 2017 Yes Standard grips well but it doesnt grip like the Under Bite or Middle Bite tech. The Optimistic 2016 and Standard 2017 have the same directional volume twin shape and same camber profile so I can vouch for the Standard. It inspires confidence in harder conditions and acts just like a regular old school side cut in soft snow which means it doesnt grip. Ethics Statement:We dont get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews and this is our unfiltered opinion. It feels more like a 3 and it can butter now. After a long time searching for a new all mtn board i decidet for the mountain twin and allready after my first ride i was convinced that i have made a good decision. Its now just barely a directional twin but a much better All Mountain Ride. Its a big bump down in comparison to the augmented camber of the YES Ghost which has the same shape and specs except for the camber profile. Still this does a good job with most small to medium rails and makes for a good board if you occasionally like to hit the jib park. It adopted the Middle Bite tech from the Yes Jackpot, got a blunt nose/tail, changed the waist width sizing and considerably narrowed the reference stance. If you like mellow turns it can do most radius turns. Jumps: Much better pop than the old design. Precious Good Ride dollars were spent to buy this and review it. It is only a little bit behind Underbite and full Magnetraction from Lib-Tech/Gnu. 160: 10-10.5 It has many similarities to theYES The Basicbut its a step up in tech and performance. The YES Optimistic was probably the only other Directional Twin shape that did better in powder but that was only because it had a bigger set back. The Jones Twin is pretty loose and playful but when you want to step it up and make some more directional groomer riding it does a great job. The Jones MT is better than the Capita and Burton. Also the tip and tail seem to chatter a little less than previous models. Maybe its the mellow magnetraction bump in the middle but it just doesnt snap edge to edge super quick. Centered for more all mountain freestyle riding and directional for powder or more directional all mountain riding. I thought about trying the 153 but the max stance width is 22.1 so I couldnt even get to my minimum 22.5 stance width for that board. Uneven Terrain: Its medium flex and somewhat forgiving nature so it can handle bumpy end of the day snow rather well. Its not as hard to butter as you would think but you do have to put a little more strength into it. Edge Hold: Nice solid grip that doesnt wash easily when it gets hard. The base has good glide too. It doesnt pop very well but it has a very rubbery feel that can handle all types of terrain without getting cranky underfoot as long as it is at slower speeds. The 2017 Yes Standardhas much more of an all mountain/all conditions appeal to it this year and is now a lot like what the 2016 Yes Optimistic use to be. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. The blunted tip/tail is great for a little extra float than the 2017 model. If you are looking for a one board quiver this is why we recommend boards like this because they can double as a set back surfy freeride board when set all the way back and give you a taste of that directional freeride feel. Great set back on board for powder. The stance this year is centered where last year it had a -10mm set back. Usually they excel in one condition but falter in another but not this ride. Jones Mountain twin Capita DOA Yes standart I usually ride on piste (I love to play with the board/switch a bit, and go on and of in the piste-on the sides). This review is my honest opinion of the snowboard, which I tested for 2 days in December of 2022. . Its got a very diverse personality that can fit a wide range of riders and it does everything very well. Powder: Would of loved to see -15mm or even -20mm set back instead of a -10mm set back but its not been tested in powder by us. Days: 4 Thats really far back for an all mountain board. Ive had no problem on more mellow entry level boxes and bonks but its not something Id like to ride on more technical advanced jibs. If you size this correctly for your boots it is medium to medium quick. Bindings: K2 Indy. You can of course go bigger or smaller but these work best for not turning the board slower than it should be and not having the dreaded, 157: 9-10 Width over inserts. If you are new to hybrid camber it will take a bit of getting use to but after a few runs it will be really fun. Conditions: Hard snow in the morning going to medium/good/soft mid day. The YES Standard does this better than most all-mountain boards because of this setback and the reduced volume in the tail. Really engaging the sidecut makes the Jones Mountain Twin grip and carve well in most condition you want to ride. Insoles: Sandsole Custom Insoles, Footprint Insole Technology Gameghangers Low Profile 159W: 10.5-11.5 Jones Dream Weaver Snowboard 2023 // Women's. 499.95. And the basic/typo would be more playful and looser than the mountain twin? On Snow Feel/Ability Level/Skidded Turns: This hybrid camber profile called Camrock has a nice balance between rocker and camber that gives you stability underfoot in all conditions and is very forgiving for those that skid your turns often or just want a more forgiving ride when you get off your game. Speed:Pretty fast. ** The 2015 Jones Mountain Twin is not centered. Weight The Jones Mountin Twin is not terribly heavy but definitely more on the light side of things. Switch: The tip and tail have different shapes but the contact with the snow is a twin so other than buttering its practically perfect switch. MT is a bit of a beast. Jones Mountain Twin - Best for Carving, Some Freestyle, and Switch Riding. If you were to compare this to other all mountain boards with a similar flex and base it would be excellent. Boots: Burton Kendo, Burton Ion, Burton Tourist, Burton Imperial, Burton SLX, Adidas Tactical ADV It's a middle of the road park board flex. There is a lot more to this review here: https://thegoodride.com/snowboard-reviews/jones-mountain-twin-2011-2019-snowboard-review/https://thegoodride.com/sno. Flex:Felt medium across the entire board and maybe bordering on the medium soft side of medium. Days: 1 . Create an account to follow your favorite communities and start taking part in conversations. From experience? GST closed down. Approximate Weight:The 2015 Jones Mountain Twin 157 weighed in at 6.0 lbs which is .4 lbs lighter than the 2014. After having ridden park boards, an old Rossi, and a few various brands, I took the plunge and bought the Twin. Size: 156 Not too stiff and not too soft. The turning is like butter, the speed isnt like the capita and about the same as the Process if not a little faster. 156: 10.-11 Well your research is right. Boots: Burton Almighty, Adidas Tactical ADV, Burton SLX, Burton Rover, Burton AMB, Set Up: about 23 one day and closer to 22.75 on others. There is a very mellow camber between the inserts with a pretty pronounced and extended rocker after. That combined with the directionalrocker and larger nose it floats really easy when set all the way back. Needless to say it was the unanimous favorite in the All Mountain Category. Pipe:One of those boards thats forgiving, has solid edge hold and drives well from wall to wall. Bindings: Burton Diode, Flux SF, Union Factory, Salomon Defender Its -20mm set back on the effective edgebut more like -38 mm (1.5) set back on the board. **For 2020 & 2021 the YES Ghost now has Slamback Inserts as well so it isnt as far behind as the standard in powder this year. Regardless of whether I was high-tailing down a groomer, playing in the park, gliding through trees, or plowing powder it was begging for more. If you are driving hard wall to wall and going bigger its all about the Ghost but this is great for most. It felt like a little bit of work to make quick edge to edge turns but you are working harder than you would with the older version. On Snow Feel: The personality of the board never changes from powder to ice or from peak to jib park. The Jones Mountain Twins base is pretty fast and the board is pretty damp. Powder: The Jones Twin is not going to have the float that theYes Big Citydoes but it floats very well for a directional twin without a set back. Uneven Terrain: We actually like the Jones Mountain Twin better here with uneven terrain than the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin. Speed:There is a bit of improvement when it comes to speed and the nose/tail doesnt chatter as much as it use to from 2013 and even 2014. 519.00. It just helps you initiate the turn a little faster and makes it easier in messy bumps or in the trees on a powder day. So when set all the way back with an approximately 22.75 stance widthIm 3.5 back on board which is pretty far. The base when waxed still has a great glide that holds its speed for a long ride. Our Recommended Boots: Adidas Tactical ADV, Burton Imperial, Burton Ion The 2019 and 2018 Jones Mountain Twin are pretty much the same rides and the only thing really new for 2019 is the addition of a . 167: 13-14. Flex: Pretty stiff but still lively and dynamic. Helmet: Smith Maze, Smith Vantage Then I went to the burton process and loved it, it was easy to ride and the camber profile was great. Edge Hold: The edge hold of the 2018 Yes Standard has greatly improved and it can handle hard snow no problem. I would disagree with the 7 out of 10 flex and say it feels a little more on the medium side instead of med/stiff. It holds through a carve rather well though. I felt it floated so easy in 1 foot of powder and it wasnt even trying yet. Ive found that carving is better with the Twin when you set back the stance so its centered over the set back camber so if you dont ride switch much set it back a bit. Check Their sizes as well for their take and especially so for weight. What is cool though is it borders on being medium/fast in softer snow and in powder. We do make money from the Where To Buy links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders perspective. I love that it has more camber than the older Nidecker made model but over the years of riding this board Im kind of wanting a little more these days. Similar Boards (but not the same): Korua Otto, Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker, Capita Mercury,YES NSB, Endeavor Pioneer, Jones Mountain Twin, Endeavor Ranger, K2 Manifest, Yes Typo, Jones Frontier, Ride Algorythm, Ride Wild Life. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Its nowhere near as easy to jib or butter around as some of the other more freestyle focused hybrid camber boards like the YES Jackpot or even the old Jones Mtn Twin but it isnt bad for a board that focuses more on carving and mountain riding. Days: 6+ The Jones Mountain Twin delivers what it advertisesan easy-going, surfy, catch-free, light, and poppy board with everything needed to take on a whole mountain from top to bottom. Its got a -10mm set back. Its got a great stable feel to it and itsgot a camber feel underfoot that doesnt catch. Its a shade less forgiving than the older model but still a great time. If I can only take one board on a road trip this would be it. Switch: So this is called a Directional Volume Twin and that means its a twin on sidecut with a centered stance but the tail has less surface area than the nose. It does have a unique reverse flex pattern meaning stiffer tips and softer between the feet. For example, in 2017 there was a 156 and a 156w. No obligation, but these links & ads support the site. Unlike normal Magnetraction this is hardly noticeable unless you look close. It powers over chunder and tracked up snow pretty well if you size it right for your boots. Set Up: 22.75 Centered 15 front -15 back. We didnt try this in powder but based on our experience in powder with former models we just know the new nose, although shorter will float just fine. In the smaller sizes, it works well with under size 10 boots but again the stance width options are limited and on the narrow side. It feels solid in any steeps and ice I've put it through. Bindings: Union Force Its fun on all radius turns and it really fit our feet well. Flex: This has a medium flex but it still has a very playful buttery feel for how stiff it is. Switch:Felt more like a twin than a directional twin when riding switch. However, the sidecut mellows out over the inserts so it tracks really well. Jumps: It pops really well on snow for an ollie and it also can launch off kickers of any size. June 22, 2022 . Also if you have to deal with chunder or hammer over the mess instead of weave around it the Standard can do that too. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. The mountain twin is $120 more than the other two, is it worth the extra price? Its also a great board for lapping the kicker line and you can take off or land either way. This is much better for intermediate riders or for those more advanced/expert riders that want a more forgiving ride. Feels Normal bordering on light. Do you want magnetraction? Last year it already had more camber than many of the YES boards and this year it seems like it has even more camber than before. Set Up:22.5 Centered 12 front -12 back, Similar Boards (but not the same) That We Compared This To:Korua Otto, Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker, Loaded Algernon, Capita Mercury, YES Ghost, YES Not So Basic Globe. Dealing with small inconsistent groomers is easy. So overall, the YES Standard, doesnt have the camber/pop/turning experience that I prefer but it has near excellent grip, butters super easy, floats in powder really well and gives a really forgiving ride. There isnt much difference in terms of ride between the 2015 and 2016 Jones Mountain Twin in terms of ride so the 15 review stands pretty much the same. Its still not fun but its morebearable. This is a stand out when it comes to powder riding compared to most all mountain boards out there. Its like there is a long extension of the edge at the middle of the board and the rest is almost un-noticable. No one had a bad thing to say about this board and everyone wanted it. Because of the set back stance it wont be as easy as the older models but its still pretty close. Camber Option: Camrock. The Jones Frontier is a highly capable board that feels incredibly stable mid-turn and offers an average degree of edge hold. They added the middle bite which is a pair of indentations in the sidecut below the inserts. Also, the limited stance width options might be tough for riders who prefer a wider stance. Im always really confident even in icy conditions. 2018 Yes Standard vs. 2017 Yes Standard. Also the nose length is longer than the tail length. Gloves: Burton AK Guide Glove, Burton AK Clutch Mitt, Burton AK Clutch Glove, Burton AK Tech Leather Glove, Burton AK Tech Glove, CG Habitats Glove, CG Habitats Work Glove, Drop Tahoma Mitt, Drop Cascade Glove, Drop Web Glove, Similar Boards (but not the same): Korua Otto, Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker, Capita Mercury,YES NSB, Endeavor Pioneer, Jones Mountain Twin, Endeavor Ranger, K2 Manifest, Yes Typo, Jones Frontier, Ride Algorythm, Ride Wild Life. Jibbing: The Yes Standard is a better jibber than you would think. This isnt going to power over chunder and tracked up snow like some Jones boards but it has this really fatigue free all day ride that we really like. First time with a hybrid profile and any type of magne-traction. 165W: 12-13 I switched to the Arbor Coda and haven't looked back (see my Coda Review). Set Up: Centered 23 wide 15 front -15 back. Very very stoked with this board. Boots:Burton Ion,Burton SLX,Burton Imperial,Nike Kaiju,DC Judge,Nike Zoom Ites,Burton Ambush,Burton Ruler,Salomon Synapse The Capita basically has a bump between the bindings to help with edge hold while Yes basically has an indent between the bindings to do the same. Conditions: Pretty good sierra snow. Its a board you can lap the park with the Yes Standard all day. You always compromise when choosing one board for everything but this is one of the best one board solutions we have come across. Not the fastest board I've ever had, but plenty of speed for most riders. Capita's Death Grip and Yes' Mid-bite are essentially polar opposites of one another. Some people love it, some people hate it (I'm among this group), and some people can take it or leave it. Powder: The set back on board 4.5 is the same as it was before but just with a more narrow stance. Well its kind of centered. Turning/Carving: These days its not quite as exciting as it used to be but thats mainly because many boards in the industry have added boards with a little more camber and a little less rocker but its still fun. Conditions: That is the price you pay for being so forgiving a ride. Never the less here is our take on how the 15s lighter core played on snow compared to the 2014 and 2013 models. So just to get a little into the techthe Jones Mountain Twin has about a 50/50 camber rocker combo and a set back camber so there is more rocker in the nose than the tail. The2014 Jones Mountain Twinis very much a continuation of the 2013 model so the 2013 and 2014 review is pretty much the same.. It doesnt have that snap back when its bent like many good hybrid rocker boards but its still a great butter board. 153: 9-10 This is a great board for hard to icy snow. Speed: Good mountain speed and we had no problem with a strong straight line. Carving: Its not a dedicated carver but its got some good qualities. 22.5 in wide 15 -15. So overall we love the blunt tip/tail, the addition of middle bite tech and feel its still a great board. It also doesnt punish you in inconsistent end of the day snow like some stiff boards do. Even I dont have issues on mellow features. Its the kind of board that can butter, carve, ollie, ride switch all over the mountain. Show all. The 156 and 153 both had a bouncy nose/tail but a base with above average glide. Uneven Terrain: So the Yes Standard has a much more forgiving way about messy resort snow and it can really turn quick through bumps. Switch:If you want to center up the stance and ride switch its still a directional twin that will almost ride like a true twin. If your stance corresponds to the set back inserts then you can get a little more directional float. I think that is what I like about Yes and their sister companies with their hybrid camber tech. Theyhad a centered stance and a very small camber between the feet that ended before the binding inserts. For example, the 156 was still slow for me at size 9 boots but it could have been a lot slower. Jibs Probably one of the only areas where it doesnt do very well. The mid-bite technology of the YES Standard provides close to excellent grip but also provides quicker turn initiation than you would think for this width over the bindings. It eliminated the loose feel you can have with the older Jones All Mountain Twin. Jumps: The new core gave a decent improvement to the pop this year when it comes to an ollie but its still not a pop master. Basically this board is very versatile. Nothing exceptional but above average with a good wax job. The 2019and 2018 Jones Mountain Twin are pretty much the same ridesand the only thing really new for 2019 is the addition of a 167w for the tall big-footed rider. Pipe: The improved edge hold will make this a great pipe board. Riders: James, Peter, Jimbo, Mike The hybrid camber under the feet makes for a very lively easy to turn board.
